Biography of Hon. Usman Bello Kumo

Hon. Usman Bello Kumo is a Nigerian politician, lawyer and legislator from Gombe State. Born on 14 September 1966 in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area, he represents the Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has served in the National Assembly across multiple legislative terms and is a prominent figure in federal politics.

Kumo studied at Akkoyel Primary School and Government Science Secondary School, Kumo, before proceeding to Bayero University Kano, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. His legal education provided the foundation for his subsequent career in public administration and politics.

Before entering the National Assembly, Kumo served as Secretary of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission in 2005. He subsequently served as Chairman of Akko Local Government Area, a position he held on two occasions, in 2006 and 2008. These roles gave him experience in electoral administration, grassroots governance and local government affairs.

Kumo was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 to represent Akko Federal Constituency. During his legislative career, he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs in the 7th and 9th Assemblies. In the 10th National Assembly, he was elected Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, making him one of the principal officers of the chamber.

As a federal legislator, Kumo has remained involved in issues relating to security, policing, governance and constituency development. He continues to represent Akko Federal Constituency and is listed as the APC candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
