About Unyime Josiah Idem (Hon.)

Hon. Unyime Josiah Idem is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist and politician from Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Born on 14 January 1975 in Usung Atiat, Ukanafun, he has built a career spanning business, telecommunications, community development and legislative service.

Idem attended QIC Group School, Ikot Akpa Idem, before proceeding to Western Annang Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpa Nkuk. He later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Uyo. He has also pursued further studies in Leadership and undertaken several professional courses in telecommunications, management and public administration.

Before entering politics, Idem established himself in the private sector. He founded Idems Ultimate Limited, a telecommunications company that has worked with major operators in Nigeria. He has also been involved in businesses spanning areas such as agriculture, real estate, construction and financial services.

His political career took him into the National Assembly in 2019, when he was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to represent the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was re-elected in 2023, becoming a member of the 10th National Assembly.

During his time in the House of Representatives, Idem has participated actively in legislative affairs and constituency development. He has sponsored bills and motions covering issues of national and local importance and has advocated for improved infrastructure, economic opportunities and development within his constituency.

He has also been particularly active in youth empowerment. His constituency interventions have included skills-acquisition programmes, vocational training and support for small businesses. Through such initiatives, he has sought to provide young people and other constituents with opportunities for economic independence.

In 2025, Idem defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has continued his legislative activities under the APC and remains associated with development initiatives within Ukanafun and Oruk Anam.

Hon. Unyime Josiah Idem is regarded as an experienced legislator with a background in business and entrepreneurship. His career combines private-sector management, philanthropy, youth empowerment and federal legislative representation.
