Kebbi | House of representatives
Hon. Umar Hassan Augie, popularly known as Turakin Augie, is a Nigerian politician and public servant from Kebbi State. He has built his public profile through his involvement in government affairs, community development and political activities in Kebbi State. He is particularly associated with Augie and the wider Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency, where he has become an important figure in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Augie has previously served in the Kebbi State Government, including as Senior Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the former Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. In that capacity, he was involved in discussions and programmes concerning sustainable development, employment opportunities and development initiatives across the state.
His public service activities have also included engagement with communities and institutions on development-related matters. In his role as an SDG adviser, he spoke on the implementation of development programmes in Kebbi and highlighted the importance of government support for initiatives aimed at improving employment and economic opportunities. His work in this area contributed to his wider public profile in the state.
Beyond his government responsibilities, Umar Hassan Augie has remained active in Kebbi's political environment. His connection to Augie Local Government Area and his traditional title of Turakin Augie have further strengthened his recognition within the area. He has continued to participate in political and community activities as he moved toward seeking an elective position at the federal level.
In 2026, Augie emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency for the 2027 House of Representatives election. His emergence followed the APC's primary process in Kebbi State, which was conducted largely through consensus arrangements. He was selected to carry the party's ticket for the constituency and is seeking to represent the people of Argungu and Augie in the National Assembly.
His candidacy marks a move from appointed public service into elective politics at the federal level. If elected in 2027, he would be responsible for representing the interests of constituents from Argungu and Augie in the House of Representatives, while participating in national legislation and constituency development initiatives. His political career continues to be shaped by his previous government experience, community engagement and involvement in the affairs of Kebbi State.
