Uba Sani (born 31 December 1970) is a Nigerian engineer, pro-democracy activist, philanthropist, and politician who serves as the Governor of Kaduna State. He assumed office on 29 May 2023 after winning the gubernatorial election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Prior to becoming governor, he represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2019 to 2023, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions.
Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, Uba Sani received a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic. He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Abuja and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance from the University of Calabar. His academic background, combined with his experience in engineering and finance, has shaped his approach to governance and public administration.
Before entering elective politics, Uba Sani was widely known as a pro-democracy activist during Nigeria's military era. Following the return to democratic rule in 1999, he served as Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Public Affairs and later held advisory positions in the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Kaduna State Government. He also served as Special Adviser on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, where he contributed to policy development and intergovernmental relations.
In 2019, Uba Sani was elected Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District. During his tenure in the National Assembly, he sponsored and supported legislation aimed at strengthening Nigeria's financial system, promoting economic development, and expanding social welfare. His leadership of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions earned him recognition for his work on financial sector reforms and legislative oversight.
Following his election as Governor of Kaduna State in 2023, Uba Sani launched an administration focused on inclusive governance, rural transformation, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security. His government has prioritized expanding road networks, improving access to quality healthcare and education, supporting farmers through agricultural initiatives, and strengthening community-based development programmes. His administration has also emphasized dialogue, reconciliation, and social inclusion as key strategies for promoting peace and sustainable development across Kaduna State.
Outside government, Uba Sani is actively involved in philanthropy through the Uba Sani Foundation, established to improve access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for disadvantaged communities. His public service has been characterized by a commitment to democratic governance, social justice, and grassroots development.
Today, Uba Sani is regarded as one of Nigeria's leading political figures, combining his background in engineering, public policy, and democratic activism to advance inclusive governance and sustainable development in Kaduna State.
