Sokoto | House of representatives
Saidu Mohammed Bargaja, also known as Mohammed Saidu Bargaja, is a Nigerian politician from Sokoto State and a member of the House of Representatives representing the Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency. He was born in 1962 and entered the National Assembly after winning election in 2019. He has since served multiple terms in the House and has been involved in legislative activities focused on security, education, healthcare and development within his constituency.
Bargaja's publicly available legislative profile lists his educational qualifications as First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). While detailed information about his early professional career and activities before entering elective politics is limited in official parliamentary records, his subsequent career has been centred largely on political representation and legislative service at the federal level.
Bargaja first entered the House of Representatives in 2019, representing Isa/Sabon Birni under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Independent National Electoral Commission's 2019 list of elected members records Mohammed Saidu Bargaja as the PDP representative for the constituency. He subsequently continued his representation in the National Assembly, becoming a member of the 10th House of Representatives.
His legislative work has included efforts to secure federal institutions for his constituency. In 2022, Bargaja sponsored bills seeking to establish a Federal Polytechnic in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, and a Federal Medical Centre in Isa, Sokoto State. Both bills were listed among the legislation introduced in the House of Representatives during the ninth National Assembly.
Healthcare infrastructure has remained one of the issues associated with his legislative activities. In the 10th National Assembly, he sponsored another bill seeking to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Isa, Sokoto State. The bill was recorded in the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies repository in 2024 and identifies Hon. Mohammed Saidu Bargaja as its sponsor.
Security has also been a major concern in Bargaja's representation of Isa and Sabon Birni, particularly because the constituency has experienced serious insecurity. In May 2024, he brought before the House an urgent matter concerning the killing of 46 people and kidnapping of 35 others across communities in Isa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas. The House subsequently called for urgent security intervention and assistance for affected victims.
Within the 10th National Assembly, Bargaja has held committee responsibilities. The APC's current profile identifies him as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Reformatory Institutions and Deputy Chairman of an ad hoc committee concerned with preparedness for a proposed single-use plastic ban. These assignments form part of his parliamentary responsibilities in the National Assembly.
Bargaja's political affiliation changed during the 2026 political realignment. After initially serving under the PDP, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2026. The APC subsequently listed him as its candidate for the Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency for the 2027 House of Representatives election. However, another candidate listing based on an INEC final candidate record identifies him under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), indicating that publicly available candidate records have contained conflicting information about his final party affiliation.
Saidu Mohammed Bargaja's political career has therefore been defined by his representation of Isa and Sabon Birni at the federal level. From his initial election to the House in 2019 through his subsequent National Assembly service, his legislative activities have included proposals for federal educational and medical institutions as well as interventions on insecurity affecting his constituency. His political journey has also reflected the wider party realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with his name appearing in current candidate records in connection with the contest for Isa/Sabon Birni.
