Hon. Regina Akume is a Nigerian politician, educationist and businesswoman from Benue State. She was born on 15 May 1955 in Benue State and has been involved in community and political activities in the state for several years.
Regina Akume is a graduate of the university and holds a Bachelor of Science degree. Before entering elective politics, she was involved in teaching and business, while also participating in grassroots political activities. She became known for her involvement in community mobilisation and women's participation in politics in Benue State.
She is married to Senator George Akume, a former Governor of Benue State, former senator and former Minister of Special Duties who currently serves as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Her political career, however, has also included her own participation in grassroots political activities and public service.
In the 2023 general election, Regina Akume was elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency of Benue State. Her election made her one of the relatively small number of women elected to the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
As a member of the National Assembly, she has participated in legislative activities concerning agriculture, healthcare, development and the welfare of her constituents. In 2023, she sponsored a motion calling for policies to boost the production and exportation of yam in Benue State, reflecting the importance of agriculture to the state's economy.
Regina Akume has also been associated with constituency development initiatives and community-focused programmes. Her public role has combined grassroots political engagement with legislative representation at the federal level.
She currently serves as a member of the 10th National Assembly, representing the people of Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency. Her career spans education, business, grassroots mobilisation and federal legislative service.
