About Nasir Idris (Gov.)

Mohammed Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, is a Nigerian educationist, trade union leader, and politician who has served as the Governor of Kebbi State since May 29, 2023. Before entering elective politics, he built a distinguished career in education and labour union leadership, serving as the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

He was born on August 6, 1965, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria. Idris attended The Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi before earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Education and authored several academic papers on educational development.

Idris began his professional career as a teacher and gradually rose through the ranks of the teachers' union. He served as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Kebbi State, National Treasurer of the NUT, National President of the NUT, and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. His leadership in organized labour earned him national recognition as an advocate for teachers' welfare and educational reforms.

In 2022, he won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Kebbi State and contested the 2023 governorship election. He was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was sworn in as the Governor of Kebbi State on May 29, 2023.

As governor, Nasir Idris has focused his administration on improving education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and human capital development. His background as an educator has strongly influenced his policies, with particular emphasis on teacher welfare, school rehabilitation, and expanding access to quality education across Kebbi State.

Mohammed Nasir Idris is widely recognized for his transition from labour union leadership to public office, bringing decades of experience in education, administration, and public service to the governance of Kebbi State.
