About Mohammed Almakura A. A. (Hon.)

Mohammed Ahmed Abdunkura Almakura, popularly known as Mohammed Almakura, is a Nigerian politician from Nasarawa State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is associated with the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State and has previously served as a member of the House of Representatives representing the same constituency. He is also a nephew of former Nasarawa State Governor and former Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Almakura has a background in business and public service, alongside his political career. Records submitted for the 2023 general elections listed him as holding a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), in addition to his earlier educational qualifications. His professional background has contributed to his involvement in community development and political activities within Nasarawa State.

His first major experience in the National Assembly came when he represented Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011. During this period, he participated in legislative activities and constituency representation, before leaving the House after the 2011 election. Despite his absence from elective office for several years, he remained active in political and community affairs in Lafia and Obi.

Almakura returned to the political scene ahead of the 2023 general elections, when he secured the APC ticket to contest the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency seat. He was a former member seeking to return to the National Assembly and campaigned on issues including constituency development and opportunities for young people. He ultimately did not win the 2023 election, finishing behind the successful candidate in the constituency.

During the period outside the National Assembly, Almakura was also associated with community-oriented projects in Lafia and Obi. In 2022, reports credited him with providing solar-powered streetlights in several communities across the constituency, while his political associates also pointed to interventions in areas such as health, education and access to potable water.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Almakura again sought the APC ticket for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency. In May 2026, he emerged as the APC candidate after his major challenger, Isaac Ali Kigbu, withdrew from the contest. The party subsequently recorded Almakura as its candidate for the constituency for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

His political profile therefore combines previous legislative experience with a renewed bid to represent Lafia and Obi at the federal level. His 2027 campaign is centered on returning to the House of Representatives and representing the interests of communities within the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.
