About Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf (Hon.)

Hon. Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf is a Nigerian engineer, public administrator and politician from Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State. He was born in Osisi, Adavi LGA, and has built a professional career around engineering, water resources, mineral development and public administration. His transition into politics followed several years of experience in both federal and Kogi State government service.

Ahovi Yusuf began his education at LGEA Primary School, Osisi, where he studied from 1985 to 1990, before proceeding to Ebira Community Secondary School, where he completed his secondary education in 1996. He later attended the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mining Engineering in 2000. He subsequently completed his National Youth Service at the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in Abuja.

After his NYSC programme, Yusuf was retained at the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, where he worked from 2002 to 2007. During this period, he furthered his education at FUTA and obtained a Master's degree in Water Engineering. In 2007, he transferred to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, where he continued working until 2014 and gained further experience in water-resource development and government administration.

In 2015, he moved into private practice and established M.A. Yusuf Associates Ltd, an engineering consultancy. His professional background and experience subsequently brought him into the Kogi State political structure. In 2021, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appointed him Senior Special Adviser on Mineral Resources, a position he held until 2023. His work in the mineral sector gave him a prominent role in the state's resource-development activities.

In January 2024, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo appointed Ahovi Yusuf as Commissioner for Works, Kogi State. As commissioner, he was responsible for overseeing the state's works and road-infrastructure ministry, including the planning, execution and monitoring of infrastructure projects across the state. He remained in the position until March 2026, when he resigned from the cabinet to pursue his political ambition.

Following his resignation, Ahovi Yusuf declared his intention to contest the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 House of Representatives election. He subsequently emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the constituency. His political platform has focused on infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, economic opportunities and improved access to potable water.

Yusuf Muhammed Ahovi's career therefore spans engineering, federal public service, private consultancy and Kogi State political administration. His experience in mining engineering, water resources and infrastructure has formed an important part of his public profile as he seeks to move from the state executive branch into federal legislative representation.
