About Leke Joseph Abejide (Hon.)

Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide is a Nigerian politician, businessman and philanthropist from Kogi State. He represents the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopa-Muro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Born on 8 May 1975 in Alu, Yagba East Local Government Area, he has built a public career that combines business, community development and legislative service.

Abejide received his early education in Alu and attended Alu Community Secondary School, completing his secondary education in 1991. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics. He later attended Bayero University, Kano, where he obtained a postgraduate degree in business administration/economics. His academic background has provided a foundation for his subsequent activities in business and public affairs.

Before entering elective politics, Abejide developed a career in business, particularly in the maritime, clearing and forwarding sector. He also established and managed business interests that provided employment and commercial opportunities. His experience in commerce later became relevant to his legislative work, particularly his involvement with issues concerning customs, trade and economic activity.

Abejide entered the National Assembly through the 2019 general elections, when he was elected to represent the Yagba Federal Constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He retained the seat in the 2023 general elections, becoming a member of the 10th National Assembly. During his time in the House, he has participated in legislative debates and constituency-focused initiatives.

Within the House of Representatives, Abejide has been associated with the House Committee on Customs and Excise, where his responsibilities include legislative oversight of customs administration and related matters. His legislative interests have also included education, infrastructure, economic empowerment and issues affecting communities within Yagba and the wider Okun area.

Beyond his formal legislative responsibilities, Abejide has been involved in philanthropic and community-development activities through the Leke Abejide Foundation. The foundation has supported initiatives relating to education, healthcare and economic empowerment. He has also been involved in community projects and educational assistance, including support for students and interventions aimed at improving local infrastructure.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Abejide moved from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged as the party's candidate for the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopa-Muro Federal Constituency following the APC primary election in May 2026. His emergence places him among the candidates seeking to represent the constituency in the next House of Representatives.

Leke Joseph Abejide's public career therefore spans business, philanthropy and federal legislative service. From his beginnings in Alu and his professional background in economics and commerce to his two terms in the House of Representatives, his career has remained closely connected to the political and developmental affairs of Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopa-Muro.
