Senator Kelvin Chizoba Chukwu is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and public servant who represents Enugu East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was elected under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) and became a member of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023. The National Assembly identifies him as the senator representing Enugu East.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu was born on 23 May 1975 and hails from Amurri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. He obtained an HND in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, and later studied Law at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. Before entering politics, he was involved in business and entrepreneurship, including activities in the mining and real-estate sectors.
His political journey became prominent in 2023 following the death of his elder brother, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu, who had been the Labour Party's senatorial candidate for Enugu East. Following the tragedy, the Labour Party selected Kelvin Chukwu as the replacement candidate, while the senatorial election was rescheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In the 18 March 2023 senatorial election, Kelvin Chukwu won the Enugu East Senatorial District seat, defeating former Enugu State Governor and incumbent senator Chimaroke Nnamani. He was subsequently sworn into the Senate on 13 June 2023 as a member of the 10th National Assembly.
As a senator, Chukwu has participated in legislative activities and constituency representation, with interests including pensioners' welfare, security, regional development, and social welfare. His legislative work has included supporting motions and initiatives aimed at addressing issues affecting his constituents and promoting development within Enugu East.
Senator Chukwu has also been involved in constituency development initiatives. These have included youth empowerment programmes, medical outreach, educational support, and community infrastructure projects aimed at improving the welfare of people within Enugu East Senatorial District.
In 2025, Senator Kelvin Chukwu left the Labour Party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). His move was reported as being influenced by concerns about the internal challenges within the Labour Party and his desire to continue pursuing his political and constituency objectives through a different political platform.
Through his background in business, education, and public service, Senator Kelvin Chukwu has developed a political career centered on legislative representation and grassroots engagement. His journey from the private sector to the Senate has made him a notable political figure in Enugu State, where he continues to represent the interests of the people of Enugu East Senatorial District.
