Kogi | House of representatives
Hon. Idris Salman is a Nigerian politician, architect and federal lawmaker from Kogi State. He was born on 11 February 1971 and represents the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He entered the National Assembly following the 2023 general elections and has since been involved in legislative activities and constituency representation.
Salman is a trained architect and holds a Master's degree. Before entering elective politics, he built a professional career in architecture and became known professionally as Arc. Salman Idris. His experience in the built environment has also influenced his interest in infrastructure and development-related issues affecting communities in Kogi State.
His political breakthrough came during the 2023 general elections, when he contested for the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He defeated the incumbent Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, and won the federal constituency seat, becoming a member of the 10th National Assembly.
As a member of the House of Representatives, Salman has participated in legislative proceedings and constituency-focused activities. He has served as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, a position that places him within the legislative oversight of institutions involved in agricultural education, training and research.
His legislative activities have also included attention to agriculture, education, infrastructure and community development. He has maintained engagement with constituents across Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu and has been associated with empowerment and development initiatives aimed at supporting people within the federal constituency.
In July 2024, Salman moved from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection marked a change in his political affiliation while he continued serving his constituency in the 10th National Assembly.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Idris Salman emerged as the APC candidate for the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency following the party's primary election in Kogi State in May 2026. His candidacy puts him forward for another term in the House of Representatives, where he is seeking to continue representing the people of Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu.
Idris Salman's public career therefore combines professional experience in architecture with legislative service at the federal level. His political journey from the ADC to the APC and his continued involvement in constituency affairs have made him a notable figure in the politics of Kogi State.
