Biography of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori
Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, CON, is a Nigerian politician, philanthropist, and public administrator who has served as the Governor of Delta State since 29 May 2023. Renowned for his grassroots leadership and legislative experience, he previously served as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from 2017 to 2023. His administration is guided by the M.O.R.E. Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—which focuses on infrastructure, economic growth, social welfare, and inclusive governance.
Born on 19 June 1963 in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, Oborevwori received his primary education at Alegbo Primary School, Effurun, before attending Oghareki Grammar School, Oghareki, for his secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in 2004 and later earned a Master's degree in Political Science from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2010. He also completed executive leadership programmes at the Alliance Manchester Business School and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Oborevwori's political career began at the grassroots level, serving as a councillor in 1996 before holding several public offices, including Special Assistant on Youth Development and Security. In 2015, he was elected to represent the Okpe State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly. Two years later, he was elected Speaker of the House, a position he held for two consecutive terms until 2023. During his tenure as Speaker, he was recognized for promoting legislative stability, constituency development, and effective collaboration between the legislature and the executive.
In the 2023 governorship election, Oborevwori was elected Governor of Delta State and was sworn into office on 29 May 2023. Since assuming office, his administration has prioritized road infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, fiscal discipline, agricultural development, and peace-building initiatives across the state. In 2025, he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political realignment in Delta State.
Beyond public office, Governor Oborevwori is known for his philanthropic activities through scholarship programmes and empowerment initiatives that have supported students, women, artisans, and small business owners across Delta State. His contributions to community development have earned him several awards and traditional honours, including the chieftaincy title of Ukodo of Okpe. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), and is recognized for his commitment to ethical leadership and public service.
Governor Oborevwori is married to Evangelist Tobore Oborevwori, and they are blessed with children. Widely regarded as a pragmatic and people-oriented leader, he continues to champion policies aimed at improving the welfare of Deltans, expanding economic opportunities, and fostering sustainable development throughout Delta State.
