About Garba Abdullahi Idris (Hon.)

Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba is a Nigerian politician from Niger State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He represents the Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Born on 9 June 1975, he has built one of the longer legislative careers among Niger State representatives, having served multiple terms in the National Assembly.

Garba's formal educational qualification includes the West African School Certificate (WASC). He became involved in politics and public affairs at a relatively young age and subsequently developed a career focused primarily on legislative representation. His political activities have been closely connected with Kontagora and the surrounding communities that make up his federal constituency.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2007, representing Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu. He successfully retained the seat in the 2011 general election, beginning another term in the National Assembly. After spending several years in federal legislative service, he continued his political career and eventually returned to the House for subsequent terms.

Garba has remained a member of the APC and has continued to represent the constituency through successive National Assembly terms. By the current 10th National Assembly, he had become a fifth-term member of the House of Representatives, reflecting his long-standing presence in federal politics and his continued electoral association with the constituency.

Within the House, Garba has served on several committees dealing with national policy and public administration. In the 10th Assembly, he became Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, giving him responsibility for legislative oversight of matters concerning Nigeria's aviation sector. He has also participated in committees covering areas including foreign affairs, healthcare, road safety and other national institutions.

His legislative activities have included sponsoring bills relating to healthcare and agricultural research. Among the bills associated with him are proposals seeking amendments to legislation governing Federal Medical Centres and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria. These initiatives reflect areas of legislative interest connected with healthcare delivery and agricultural development.

Garba's long tenure has also generated discussion about political representation and zoning within his constituency. In January 2026, a coalition of stakeholders from Kontagora, Wushishi, Mariga and Mashegu called for the 2027 House seat to be zoned to Mashegu, arguing that the area had not produced the representative since 1999. The coalition acknowledged Garba's years of representation while calling for greater rotation among the constituent local government areas.

Abdullahi Idris Garba's career therefore spans several terms of federal legislative service and a range of parliamentary responsibilities. His political profile is particularly defined by his long representation of Kontagora, Wushishi, Mariga and Mashegu, as well as his current role overseeing aviation-related matters in the House of Representatives.
