Biography of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Erishi Nwifuru

Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Erishi Nwifuru is a Nigerian politician, lawyer, entrepreneur, and public administrator who has served as the Governor of Ebonyi State since 29 May 2023. Before assuming the governorship, he served for eight years as the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, becoming the first person in the state's history to be elected Speaker for two consecutive terms. His administration is guided by the People's Charter of Needs, a development agenda centered on infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, industrialization, and human capital development.

Born on 25 February 1975 in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, Nwifuru was raised in a farming family and overcame significant challenges during his early education. He attended Oferekpe Agbaja Community Primary School and Community Secondary School, Nwofe Agbaja. He later earned a Bachelor's degree in Building Technology and Woodwork from Ebonyi State University and obtained a Master's degree in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the University of Salford, United Kingdom. He also earned a law degree from Ebonyi State University, further strengthening his academic and professional background.

Nwifuru's political journey began in 2007 when he contested for a seat in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly but was unsuccessful. He was subsequently appointed an Ex-Officio State Executive Member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2011, he was elected to represent the Izzi West State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, where he served as Deputy Chief Whip and Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Survey, Urban Development, and Environment. In 2015, he was elected Speaker of the House and was re-elected in 2019, making history as the state's first two-term Speaker. In 2020, he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside other political leaders in Ebonyi State.

As the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Nwifuru won the Ebonyi State governorship election and was sworn in as the sixth Executive Governor of the state on 29 May 2023. Since assuming office, his administration has focused on expanding road infrastructure, improving healthcare and education, promoting agriculture, enhancing security, empowering youths and women, and driving industrial development through strategic investments. His "People's Charter of Needs" has remained the cornerstone of his governance philosophy.

Beyond politics, Governor Nwifuru is recognized for his commitment to youth empowerment, education, and community development. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Builders and has continued to advocate policies that promote sustainable economic growth and improved living standards for the people of Ebonyi State. His leadership style emphasizes inclusive governance, accountability, and service delivery.

Governor Francis Nwifuru is married to Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, and together they are committed to humanitarian and social development initiatives across Ebonyi State. Today, he is regarded as one of Nigeria's emerging political leaders, combining legislative experience with executive leadership in advancing the development of Ebonyi State.
