Hon. Dr. Effefiong Nta Eke is a Nigerian politician, academic, public administrator and community leader from Cross River State. He is associated with Calabar Municipality and has built a career spanning academia, local government administration, infrastructure development and politics.
Eke has an academic background in education and social research and has been associated with the University of Calabar. His academic interests include public administration, strategic planning and socio-economic development. He has also contributed to academic research and publications.
He became prominent in grassroots politics through his service as Chairman of Calabar Municipality. He served as Chairman of the local government between 2020 and 2023, during which he was involved in the administration of the municipality and local development programmes.
In March 2024, Eke was appointed Director-General of the Cross River State Infrastructure Development Agency by Governor Bassey Otu. In this role, he oversees the agency's responsibilities relating to infrastructure planning, development, regulation and safety across the state.
As Director-General, Eke has been involved in efforts to strengthen infrastructure coordination in Cross River State, including the regulation of construction activities, roads and right-of-way matters. He has also promoted improved coordination between government agencies, contractors and other stakeholders involved in infrastructure projects.
Eke subsequently returned to electoral politics and emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Odukpani/Calabar Municipality Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election. His emergence followed the party's 2026 primary process in Cross River State.
Beyond politics and government administration, Eke has been associated with cultural and community leadership in the Efut community. He has also maintained interests in education, infrastructure development and community advancement.
Effefiong Nta Eke's career therefore combines academic work, grassroots administration, infrastructure management and political activity. His transition from local government leadership to heading a state infrastructure agency and subsequently contesting for federal legislative representation has made him a notable political figure in Calabar Municipality and Cross River State.
