Biography of Hon. Dickson Tarkighir

Hon. Dickson Dominic Tarkighir is a Nigerian politician, businessman and legislator from Benue State. He was born on 12 April 1969 in Makurdi, Benue State, and represents the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is a returning member of the 10th National Assembly.

Tarkighir began his education at St. Thomas Primary School, Ibume, before proceeding to Nongov Community Secondary School, Tse-Kyo, in Guma Local Government Area. He later studied Business Administration at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, graduating in 2003. He subsequently obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2008.

Before entering politics, Tarkighir gained experience in the private sector. He worked with Mojo Electronics in Umuahia and later with Okada Air in Kaduna. He subsequently ventured into business and established Dasnett Mobile Services. He also served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Triggar and Gibbons Ltd, an advertising and logistics company, and was involved in the establishment of District 4 Lounge in Makurdi.

His political career developed in Benue State, where he served as Senior Special Adviser on Industries to Governor Gabriel Suswam from 2009 to 2014. He resigned from the position to pursue a seat in the National Assembly. In the 2015 general election, he contested under the APC and was elected to represent the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Tarkighir has served in the National Assembly across different legislative periods. He was also a member of the ECOWAS Parliament and has served on several House committees, including Appropriation, Defence, Population and Petroleum Resources (Downstream). After losing his seat in the 2019 election, he returned to the House in 2023 after winning the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency election.

In the 10th National Assembly, Tarkighir serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Constituency Outreach. His legislative activities have included issues relating to security, rural development, infrastructure, healthcare and constituency projects. Through his constituency work, he has also been associated with interventions involving community infrastructure and skills development.

Beyond his legislative responsibilities, Tarkighir has maintained an interest in community development and public service in Benue State. His career spans business, state government administration and federal legislative service, with his political activities focused particularly on the representation and development of the Makurdi/Guma constituency.
