Hon. Dankawu Idris is a Nigerian politician from Kano State and a member of the Federal House of Representatives. He represents the Kumbotso Federal Constituency of Kano State in the National Assembly. He became a member of the 10th National Assembly following his victory in the 2023 general elections, where he contested under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Dankawu Idris was born on 1 January 1978 in Kano State. He received his early education in the state and later obtained a National Diploma, which formed part of his educational foundation before his entry into public and political activities. His background in Kano provided him with considerable exposure to the grassroots communities and political structures within the state.

Before and during his political career, Dankawu developed experience in public affairs and grassroots engagement. His political activities were focused on representing the interests of people within his constituency and contributing to the development of his local community. His involvement in Kano politics eventually led to his emergence as a candidate for the Kumbotso Federal Constituency seat.

In the 2023 general elections, Dankawu Idris won the election to represent Kumbotso Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Upon his inauguration, he became part of the 10th National Assembly, where he took part in legislative proceedings, constituency representation and parliamentary activities. He was also assigned responsibilities within House committees, including duties connected with issues concerning drugs and narcotics.

As a federal lawmaker, Dankawu Idris has focused his legislative responsibilities on representing the interests and concerns of constituents from Kumbotso. His role includes participating in debates, committee activities, consideration of legislation and oversight functions of the House of Representatives.

During the 10th National Assembly, Dankawu Idris later moved from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His political journey has consequently included experience within both state-level political structures and the federal legislature. Through his representation of Kumbotso, he remains involved in the political and legislative affairs of Kano State.
