Sokoto State | Governor
Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto has been the Governor of Sokoto State since May 29, 2023. Born on January 1, 1970, in Tudun Wada, Sokoto, he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and previously served as Deputy Governor from 2015 to 2018.
He has a strong academic and professional background in business administration, public finance, and international affairs, holding a Ph.D. in Business Administration (2023), two master’s degrees, and a bachelor’s degree from reputable Nigerian institutions.
Before becoming governor, he worked extensively in the civil service, rose through local government finance leadership, served as a two-term commissioner in Sokoto State, and was the first Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
As governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu is implementing a 9-Point Smart Agenda focused on infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, and social welfare. His 2026 “Budget of Socio-Economic Expansion,” valued at ₦758.7 billion, aims to accelerate development and improve living standards.
He is also professionally recognized as a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA) and the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
