Zamfara State | Senator
Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari (born January 28, 1968) is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and Senator representing Zamfara West. He served two terms as Governor of Zamfara State from 2011 to 2019 and was Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum between 2015 and 2019.
Yari began his political career in 1999 with the APP/ANPP, later serving in key party leadership roles before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2007. He is currently a Senator in the 10th Senate and chairs the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
Educated in Nigeria and the UK, he holds qualifications in public administration, leadership, and finance. Beyond politics, he is Chairman of the Board of Geregu Power Plc and was installed as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland in December 2025. He is married with children and is popularly known as the “White Lion.”
