About Ahmed Lawan (Senator)

Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (born January 12, 1959) is a Nigerian politician and academic, currently serving as Senator for Yobe North in the 10th National Assembly. He is best known as the 14th President of the Nigerian Senate, a position he held from 2019 to 2023.

Born in Gashua, Yobe State, Lawan holds degrees in Geography and Remote Sensing, including a Ph.D. from Cranfield University, UK. Before entering politics, he worked as a civil servant and university lecturer. He has served continuously in the National Assembly since 1999—first in the House of Representatives (1999–2007) and then in the Senate from 2007, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-serving lawmakers.

In the 10th Senate, he chairs the Senate Committee on Defence and remains influential in national politics. He has received national and traditional honors, including the GCON, and holds titles such as Sardaunan Bade and Dan Masanin Bade.
