About David Jimkuta (Senator)

David S.U. Jimkuta is a Nigerian politician and businessman, currently serving as Senator for Taraba South in the 10th National Assembly under the APC. He rose to national prominence in 2023 by defeating incumbent Governor Darius Ishaku in a major electoral upset.

Hailing from humble beginnings as a commercial motorcyclist, Jimkuta built his political career as a legislative aide, APC youth mobilizer, and grassroots organizer. His 2023 election victory was confirmed by the Supreme Court after a legal dispute over the APC primary nomination.

In the Senate, he chairs the Committees on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters and on Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation. He has sponsored key legislation, including the Nigeria Tea Development Authority Bill and bills establishing the Federal University Wukari and Federal College of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ibi.

Locally known as the "Impact Unifier," Jimkuta has advanced education, infrastructure, rural electrification, empowerment programs, and security initiatives in Taraba South, including STEP, which distributed tools, vehicles, and agricultural equipment to residents.
