Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson is a Nigerian lawyer, legislator, and public servant who represents the Ikorodu Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives of Nigeria. A member of the All Progressives Congress, he is widely recognized for his legislative contributions, constituency development projects, and advocacy for improved security, infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Born on 30 March 1972 in Ikorodu, Benson obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Lagos State University in 1994 before attending the Nigerian Law School, where he qualified as a barrister in 1995. He later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Comparative International Business Law from London Guildhall University and subsequently completed an MBA at Warwick Business School. He is a member of both the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
Before entering elective politics, Benson built a successful career in law, banking, corporate governance, and public administration. He worked with the General Counsel Division of the United Nations in New York, served as legal counsel at Ecobank Plc and Lead Bank Plc, and later held senior leadership positions at the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Babajimi Benson was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019 and 2023, making him a three-term lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency. Throughout his legislative career, he has chaired and served on several important committees, including the House Committee on Defence, where he has played a key role in advancing legislation on national security and defence reforms.
As a legislator, Benson has sponsored numerous bills and motions addressing defence, electricity reform, education, infrastructure, and economic development. Several of his sponsored bills have been signed into law, reflecting his commitment to effective lawmaking and national development.
Beyond legislation, he is known for implementing impactful constituency projects in Ikorodu. These include the establishment of the iCare Food Bank to support vulnerable residents, the development of healthcare facilities such as the Mother and Child Hospital in Imota, investments in education and youth empowerment, and the launch of IKD 106.1 FM, a community radio station that promotes information sharing and local development.
