Biography of Hon. Andrew Ijegbai

Hon. Andrew Ijegbai is a Nigerian environmental scientist, business executive and politician from Edo State. He is associated with the Owan Federal Constituency, comprising Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas. In 2025, he was appointed as Commissioner for Mining in Edo State, where he became involved in matters relating to the state’s mineral resources and mining sector.

Ijegbai holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. He also received specialised training in sanitary landfill management and recycling in Texas, United States. His professional background spans environmental restoration, waste management, infrastructure development and community-focused projects.

Before entering government, Ijegbai worked in the environmental and energy sectors. He served as Director of Operations at Phoenix Environmental Services, where he was involved in recycling and landfill projects across numerous communities. He also worked as an Operational Manager at Spill Respondence Nigeria Limited, handling hazardous-waste management projects for major oil companies. He later became Managing Director of Phantom Energy Group of Companies, with interests including road construction, erosion control and environmental services.

Politically, Ijegbai is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2026, he contested the APC primary for the Owan East/Owan West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announced primary result placed him as the party's candidate for the constituency, and he subsequently received the party's certificate of return.

Through his professional and public-service career, Andrew Ijegbai has maintained a focus on environmental management, infrastructure, natural resources and community development. He is currently positioned to represent Owan East/Owan West under the APC in the 2027 election.
