About Alhaji Baba Malam Wali

Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, mni, is a Nigerian public administrator and politician who served as the Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG) under the administrations of former Governor Ibrahim Gaidam and Governor Mai Mala Buni. Widely regarded as one of Yobe State's most experienced civil servants, he has built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in public administration, policy implementation, and institutional development.

Baba Malam Wali holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Geography (1981) and a Master's degree in Rural Development (1986), both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is also a Member of the National Institute (mni), reflecting his advanced training in public policy, strategic leadership, and national development.

He began his public service career with the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) before serving as a Social Mobilisation Officer with the former Mass Mobilisation for Self-Reliance, Social Justice and Economic Recovery (MAMSER). In 1989, he became a Principal Research Officer in Borno State and later served as Principal Private Secretary (Chief of Staff) to the Military Governor of Borno State, gaining valuable experience in government administration and policy coordination.

Following the creation and development of Yobe State, Wali held several strategic positions under the North-East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP), progressing from Field Team Coordinator to Programme Manager. He later rose through the ranks of the Yobe State Civil Service, serving as Permanent Secretary in key ministries, including Youth, Sports and Development; Transport and Energy; Environment; and Administration and General Services. These appointments gave him broad experience across multiple sectors of government.

In 2015, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam appointed Baba Malam Wali as Acting Secretary to the State Government, before confirming him as the substantive SSG. He continued in the position under Governor Mai Mala Buni after being reappointed in 2019, playing a central role in coordinating government policies, supervising inter-ministerial activities, and supporting the implementation of development programmes across Yobe State. His tenure earned him a reputation for professionalism, administrative efficiency, and institutional continuity.

Beyond his official responsibilities, Baba Malam Wali is recognized for his commitment to youth development, education, and community service. He has mentored young professionals, supported educational initiatives, and promoted policies aimed at strengthening governance and improving public service delivery in Yobe State.
