About Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu (Hon.)

Hon. Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu, popularly known as “Lafi,” is a Nigerian politician and member of the House of Representatives representing the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency of Oyo State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is serving in the 10th National Assembly. His political career has developed through grassroots politics and legislative service, with his activities focused largely on representation of the people of Akinyele and Lagelu.

Akinmoyede was born on 25 May 1965. Available official legislative records list WAEC as his educational qualification. Before his election to the National Assembly, he had already established himself in Oyo State politics and served in the Oyo State House of Assembly, where he represented his constituents and participated in the legislative affairs of the state.

His political career at the state level included service in the Oyo State House of Assembly, where he eventually became Chief Whip during the Eighth Assembly. His experience in the state legislature gave him exposure to lawmaking, parliamentary procedures and constituency representation. In 2022, he formally declared his intention to contest for the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the APC, after the then incumbent indicated that he would not seek another term.

Akinmoyede subsequently secured the APC nomination and contested the 2023 general election for the House of Representatives. He emerged as the APC candidate for Akinyele/Lagelu, and his name was included in the party's official list of House of Representatives candidates for Oyo State. Following the election, he entered the 10th National Assembly as the representative of the constituency.

As a federal legislator, Akinmoyede has been involved in constituency-oriented programmes, particularly empowerment and skills-development initiatives. In November 2025, he organised a capacity-building programme for 300 constituents, alongside financial support and provision of point-of-sale equipment. The programme was presented as part of his efforts to support economic opportunities and small-scale businesses among residents of the constituency.

His constituency, Akinyele/Lagelu, covers the two local government areas of Akinyele and Lagelu in Oyo State. Representation of the area at the federal level involves participation in national lawmaking, budgetary processes and oversight of government institutions, as well as advocacy for projects and programmes affecting constituents. Akinmoyede's political activities have also included engagement with party members, community leaders, youths and other groups across the constituency.

Ahead of the 2027 general election, Akinmoyede has again emerged as the APC candidate for the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency. The Oyo State APC formally unveiled him among its House of Representatives candidates in September 2026, while the party's candidate platform also lists him for the constituency. Election records for the 2027 contest likewise identify him as an APC candidate.

Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu's political career therefore spans both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the National Assembly. His progression from state legislator and Chief Whip to federal lawmaker has made legislative representation the central part of his public career. As the APC candidate for Akinyele/Lagelu in 2027, he is seeking to continue representing the constituency at the federal level.
