Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole is a Nigerian politician, labour leader, and public administrator who represents Edo North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Born on 4 April 1952 in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, he is widely regarded as one of Nigeria's most influential political leaders, having served as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Governor of Edo State, and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Oshiomhole received his early education in Edo State before attending Auchi Polytechnic, where he studied Industrial Relations. His educational background, combined with years of involvement in labour advocacy, laid the foundation for a distinguished career in trade unionism, public administration, and politics.
Before entering elective politics, Adams Oshiomhole built a remarkable career in the labour movement. He worked with the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, where he rose through the ranks to become General Secretary. In 1999, he was elected President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), a position he held until 2007. During his tenure, he became nationally recognized for championing workers' rights, advocating for improved wages and working conditions, and engaging the Federal Government on key economic and social policies.
In 2007, Oshiomhole contested the Edo State governorship election under the platform of the Action Congress (AC). Although the initial election results declared another candidate the winner, the courts later nullified the outcome and declared Oshiomhole the duly elected Governor of Edo State in 2008. He was subsequently re-elected in 2012 and served until 2016. His administration was noted for significant investments in road construction, education, healthcare, urban renewal, and public sector reforms across Edo State.
Following his tenure as governor, Oshiomhole was elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018, where he played a key role in strengthening the party's organizational structure and electoral strategy. In the 2023 general elections, he was elected to represent Edo North Senatorial District in the Senate under the platform of the APC and was sworn into office on 13 June 2023 as a member of the 10th National Assembly.
As a senator, Adams Oshiomhole has focused on legislation and oversight relating to labour, infrastructure development, economic growth, education, youth empowerment, and good governance. Drawing on his extensive experience in public administration and labour leadership, he has continued to advocate for policies that promote accountability, national development, and improved living standards for Nigerians.
