Jigawa | House of representatives
Hon. Abubakar Makki Yalleman is a Nigerian politician, accountant and legislator from Jigawa State. Born on 22 May 1969 in Yalleman, he represents the Mallam Madori/Kaugama Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023, making him a member of the 10th National Assembly.
Makki began his education at Yalleman Tijjani Primary School before proceeding to Senior Secondary Grammar School, Hadejia. He later studied Accountancy at Bayero University, Kano, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995. He subsequently obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and also pursued professional training in accountancy.
Before entering politics, Makki built a career in finance and public administration. He began working with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in 1997 as an Account Officer and rose to the position of Assistant Manager in the Accounts Department. He later worked with the Jigawa State Ministry of Finance, where he was involved in financial administration and organisational reforms.
In 2010, he joined the Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO), where he served in the Finance and Accounts Department and rose to the position of Assistant General Manager. He resigned from the organisation in 2018 to pursue his political career.
Makki was elected to represent Mallam Madori/Kaugama in the House of Representatives in 2019 and secured re-election in 2023. During the 9th National Assembly, he served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Defence. In the 10th Assembly, he became Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, giving him a role in legislative oversight of Nigeria's police institutions and internal security matters.
As a legislator, Makki has also been involved in constituency development programmes covering education, healthcare, water supply, electricity, infrastructure, empowerment and scholarships. In the 2026 APC primary, he emerged as the party's candidate for Mallam Madori/Kaugama Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election, positioning him to seek another term in the House of Representatives.
