Niger | House of representatives
Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Lado is a Nigerian politician from Niger State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is associated with the Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency, which comprises Gurara, Suleja and Tafa Local Government Areas. He has served in both the Niger State House of Assembly and the Federal House of Representatives, building a political career largely around grassroots representation and youth development.
Lado was born on 25 November 1973 in Dawaki, Suleja, Niger State, into the family of Mallam Abdullahi Dikko Dada. He began his education at Anguwan Gayan Primary School in Suleja, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He subsequently attended Government Science College, Kagara, and later Government Science College, Kontagora, before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a diploma in Power System Engineering (Electrical).
Before entering elective politics, Lado gained experience in both public and private-sector work. He worked as a Clerical Officer with the Judicial Service Committee in Abuja and later as a System Operator with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA). He subsequently established Ta’Annabi Nigeria Limited, through which he developed experience in business and enterprise.
Lado became active in politics in the 2000s and was elected to the Niger State House of Assembly, where he represented his constituency from 2011 to 2015. His political activities during this period were particularly associated with youth development and grassroots mobilisation. He later moved to the federal level and was elected to the House of Representatives to represent the Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency.
In the 2019 general election, Lado was re-elected to the House of Representatives on the APC platform, securing more than 54,000 votes. During his time in the National Assembly, he was involved in constituency projects and interventions focusing on areas such as education, healthcare, poverty reduction and skills acquisition. Among the initiatives associated with his representation were scholarship programmes and educational support for students from the constituency.
Lado has also maintained a strong interest in youth development and empowerment. His constituency interventions have included educational scholarships, skills-acquisition programmes and other forms of support aimed at creating opportunities for young people. He has also spoken publicly about the need for greater educational and institutional development within the Suleja Emirate and surrounding communities.
His political career has, however, included electoral and legal challenges. Although he won the Gurara/Suleja/Tafa seat in 2019, he was not returned to the House in the 2023 general election, when he contested the constituency again under the APC. Nevertheless, he remains an established political figure associated with the constituency, having previously served at both state and federal legislative levels.
Abdullahi Abubakar Lado's career therefore spans electrical engineering, business, grassroots politics, state legislative service and federal representation. His public profile has particularly emphasized youth development, education, constituency empowerment and community-focused projects across Gurara, Suleja and Tafa in Niger State.
